Pictures

One of the things I have been meaning to do is order some prints of a few of the pictures I took in France last year to use in my home.

This one is kind of cheating :-).  I took a picture of this original oil Monet painting in the Musée de l'Orangerie.  This way I can have a Monet - sort of -  in my home.  This one is going in the master bath on the wall at the end of the tub.

The next one is going in the commode area of the bathroom.

These last two are going into my laundry room, that I also use as a potting area, so I thought the flowers would be appropriate.

I ordered them from Kodak, online.  I should receive them in about a week, then I will go to Michael's for frames.  As soon as I get them up, I will do a post on it.

In the meantime, it is still too cold and rainy to work on the dining table and chairs.  Hopefully I will get the table done this weekend.

The Best Laid Plans....

So, are you wondering how the kitchen area table and chair redo are coming along?

The top of the table is all stained and has one coat of poly on it.  It has been rainy and cold here for 4 days straight, so I have not been able to do the second coat of poly in the garage.  It is not suppose to get sunny and warm until this weekend, so I will be working on it then.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another project we have started in the same area of the house is getting ready for new counter tops.
If you look closely at the picture, in the back corner of the kitchen, we had to remove the appliance garage, in order to be able to have the new counter tops installed.  Which means, we have to finishing tiling the backsplach of that area.  Which also means we have to find a new place to put the appliances.  But I have plans for that....and that will be a future post...think new pantry area.
When we moved in a year and a half ago, we were happy with the Corian counter tops.  It had an integrated sink, that was part of the counter tops too.  Well, the sink is chipped and stained badly.
The faucet, leaked and is actually falling apart.  The house is 10 years old, so that was to be expected.
So, we decided to bite the bullet and get new counter tops, stainless steel sink (to match the appliances) and a new faucet.
It will be about two weeks before it is done.  I will post pictures then.
In the meantime, I think I will take some time to read my stack of magazines, that I have not had time to get too!  OR I might start a 3rd project....hmmmmm.  That might be juggling a little too much.
What projects are you working on?
In The Beginning
I am being featured at No Minimalist Here's open house party!  Click on the link to visit Sherry and all of the other wonderful open houses!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I started working on the kitchen table today.

First I sanded the top.  I needed to get rid of some poly that was put on wrong a couple of years ago - it was wavy and dull.
I started with a 60 grit sandpaper, then 100, 150 and finally a 220 grit.  The table top is a smooth as a baby's behind now.

Then I applied my first coat of stain.  I will apply another coat tomorrow.

I am leaving the top stained because it gets a lot of wear and tear.  The base and legs of the table will be painted a creamy white and then glazed and aged.

Here are some of the transformations this table has had in the past.

Original - All Stained.

Painted yellow then glazed - a few years ago.

After the yellow, I painted it black.  Now I am ready for a lighter look.  After the second coat of stain, I will poly it.  Then the painting and glazing starts.  Then the painting and glazing of the six chairs....this could take a while :-).

Starting A Project On My Side Bar, Finally!

Remember this January, when I showed you the projects I had planned for this year?  I made a list on my sidebar, and since I was recovering from my shoulder surgery, I knew I would not be able to start them for a few months.

I am getting ready to tackle the biggest project first, and will start this week.

I am painting my kitchen eat-in area table and chairs.  I think it will take me a little longer than usual, but I am up for the challenge!

Here is an inspiration picture I showed you in January.
So, if I don't pop in to say hello for a few days, you know what I am doing....

Weekend Plans

This weekend we are suppose to have beautiful weather.  The temperature should be in the mid 70's.

 So, Mr. Comforts of Home and I are going to work outside a little.

The pergola is coming along.  It might be finished this weekend!  Our son is here visiting and he planted 6 Carolina Jasmine vines - one at each post.  I look forward to watching them climb up over the pergola.

I planted a few strawberry plants in my front garden, in between lilies and shrubs.  If you look really close you can see a berry...

So, what are your weekend plans?  Are you antiquing?  Gardening?  Playing?  I would love to know!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Last year on this date, I wasn't thinking about wearing of the green and corned beef.  I was flying over the ocean on my way to Paris....

I was dreaming of the Eiffel Tower.

Dreaming of the Louvre...

Dreaming of the Paris Flea Markets...

and dreaming of spending days, wandering around the streets of Paris...

(all pictures in this post taken by me last year in Paris)

What wonderful memories.

Guess What's Blooming?

Less than a month ago, I did a post, here,  about violets and how mine had not bloomed in forever!

I think they just wanted to be featured on my blog, because guess what bloomed over the weekend?
No, I didn't do anything different to them.  And they both started blooming.  Go figure!

Last time I look I had 649 followers.  When we reach 650, the giveaway begins....

Also besides working in the studio on a couple of commission pieces this week, I am going to start one of my projects on my side bar...I can't wait to get going!

On The Fringe

On The Fringe of Recovery

I want to thank you all for still following this silly blog of mine, even though I have not posted any decorating or gardening posts for a while.

As you know I had rotator cuff surgery in December and have been spending the last couple of months healing.  It is almost a full time job.  Going to physical therapy 2 times a week and spending a couple of hours each day at home, doing home therapy exercises at home take up a lot of my time.

It has been almost 10 weeks since the surgery and I am doing well.  Not totally back to normal, but getting there.

Starting next week, I am going to start working on some of those projects on my side bar.  Of course, I will take before, during and after pictures to show you.

(Home pillow pictured above made by Kathy at Kathy's Cottage)
So soon you will be seeing this blog get back to normal.  Thanks for hanging in there!

Don't forget to keep checking back in.  As soon as I reach 650 followers, I am having a giveaway!  Have a great weekend!
Welcome Home,
Penny
p.s. I took some of your advice.  I decided to start weighing myself on Friday, instead of Monday.  So the results will be posted on the sidebar on Fridays now.

Celtic Woman

Last night we went to a concert in Asheville.  We saw the Celtic Woman, on their new tour called Songs from the Heart.

I took this picture at the end of the concert, just as they were finishing the song, You Raise Me Up.

If you have not seen or heard Celtic Woman, you can find their concerts on PBS.  If they are touring anywhere near you, I highly recommend you go see them in person.  It was the best concert I have seen in years.

Here is a Youtube video of them singing, You Raise Me Up.

p.s.  I have somone very special to me that has recently purchased a home, that is a major fixer upper.  She has just started blogging about it.  Today she is trying to make a decision on an entertainment system.  Can you go over and help her decide?  Her blog is called Just About Home.  Click on the name to be taken to her blog.
