Louis Blue Table

The table is finished.  It is painted the same Louis Blue as the hutch, and has a gold leaf edge.

Well, sort of....Mr Comforts of Home thinks there should be something in the center....like a French Bee, or a Fleur de Lis.  I like it as is.
Let's take a poll.  Do you think it should have a bee in the center?  A fleur de lis? Or leave it as is?

Once we decide then I will put the whole loft back in order with a few more changes and show you the hutch, table, chairs etc all together.

On another note, my staple remover finally arrived, so I can start working on the French settee now!
Welcome Home,
Penny

Hi,

I just love your blog. I can't wait to see your loft area complete. As for the table, I think a bee would be quite charming, but if you are going to decorate the table, then what would be the point? So I guess it depends on what you had in mind.

Looks beautiful Penny. I would have to agree with the Mr. on this one. I like either idea really, both very Frenchy, and you know me and stenciling.

I'd love to see a tiny bee, offset from the centre - just for whimsy.

Penny
It turned out beautifully.
If you are leaving the table unadorned, I would add the bee in the center.

If you were to put a bee, I would do it off to the side not in the center so if you had a centerpiece it would not be covered. Richard from My Old Historic House.

Hi Penny! OH, your table turned out so beautifully! Now you know I love you to death and love everything you do, but I got all excited thinking about a little golden bee in the center of your table. He could even be off centered and more toward the edge! :)
surprise us!
Be a sweetie,
shelia ;)

I like the gold leaf edge and I think a little bee off to the side would be cute too. If you put it in the middle, it probably wouldn't be seen because of the accessories that you put on the table. I can't wait to see the finished loft area and your settee.

Well are you going to put something on the table? That might determine if it needs more decoration.

I like the fleur-de-lis since I am allergic to bee stings and don't do bees!

It seems to need something -- but maybe that's just me. I am envious of the size of your loft. Mine holds 2 large bookcases, plus I have a chair more or less crammed in there. No room for a table or anything like that.

Wow- looks very beautiful. I vote "yes" for the bee!

Gorgeous, Penny. Your table looks great with the armoire.

My feeling, to paraphrase an old TV commercial:
"Don't touch it, you'll break it!"

Its beautiuful as is but it would bee even more beeeeeeeeeeeeeautiful with a bee:)

I think a Fleur-de-Lis would be beautiful in the center. If you put something in the middle - or a cloth or doily in the center - it wouldn't show. But it wouldn't matter!

Hmm, I think perhaps a fleur de lis may be too contrived and expected on a blue table. I like the idea of the unexpected bee.

yes, I am with everyone.....a Bee would Bee Beeeeeeeautiful! And your just the person who could do it. Can't wait to see it all finished!

I agree with you, I like it just as it is. You did a great job painting it.

Wow, that turned out so pretty. You completely transfomed the table. Something in the middle would be the crowning touch...but then do you worry about putting something in the center of the table and covering the pretty design?

How lovely Penny! I vote fleur de lis. Can't wait to see it completed!

Hi Penny...I have to agree with the Mr. I think there should be something there in the middle. The gold leaf looks like it should be framing something. Could be a bee or fleur de lis...love the new color!~Hugs, Patti

I fear I have already been outvoted, but as is looks good to me. I am a bit of a minimalist though.

That turned out pretty! I would have to agree with others that you should add something to the center IF it's going to be used as a side table with nothing on it. You could leave it plain if you're going to put a lamp on it etc.

Well I love you and feel as if I know you and so I'm going to agree with whatever you say. What did you say? You're tired of this project and ready to move on already? All righty then, no bee and no fleur de lis.

Kim @ Savvy Southern Style said...

It probably would look good with a graphic or stenciled, but most like things will go on the table and cover it up anyway.

Penny I love it and I LOVE the idea of adding a bee graphic!

Your table turned out beautifully Penny. As far as the center is concerned, I think you could go either way. I think it depends on how you plan to use the table and if you are going to put something in the center.

How's that for taking both sides and keeping peace in the family (smile).

a small bee would look great.

Penny,
You did such a great job on the hutch and table. I have a can of chaulk paint to use on some dining room chairs, I just havent had the time to work on them yet!

Muddy Boot Dreams said...

Yes a bee, but not in the center....just off a bit. All of your accessories would crowd him out.

I know after I painted the french postscript onto my table, only the simplest of things work now. Otherwise it looks too crowded.

Love it, Penny, but I have to agree with Mr. Comforts of Home. : ) I think I like the idea of the bee more than the fleur here.

Lorrie said...

I love fleur-de-lis and bees, but I think a bee would be great here. A fleur-de-lis has an up and down so from one side it would be topsy turvy, whereas a bee, although it doesn't ever fly upside-down, as far as I know, does flit around at different angles. Off centre, as Pondside mentioned, would be nice.

If it was me, I'd let it the way it is. It's beautiful! I love the colors.

I like the table plain..it's a beautiful color and finish. I can't wait to see the whole room when it is finished.

Oh boy, aren't you confused yet? I like the off set bee idea, but if you leave it as is, it is fine too.
What is going to be on it, will make the difference.

Great blog!

It has to be the bee, Penny...you're so great at this...where do you find the time? I've gone and started a second blog (hence the new photo id) and don't know how I will manage...what you do is so much more active and complicated...but I love all you do!

Penny, I vote for a graphic of some kind in the center of the table! It looks great, as does the hutch, and it will look even more spectacular with some kind of adornment. :-)
Happy Thanksgiving! ~ Sue

Penny,
The table looks lovely. I think a fleur de lis in white to match the hutch would be nice. But, I really love the idea of a bee in the center. Your husband has a nice eye.

I don't want to get in the middle of this, but a fleur de lis would be nice. Can hardly wait to see the fabric you have chosen for the settee.
