The Taste of Summer

Are you enjoying your summer?  I am!  You know what I love best about summer?
Fresh. Ripe. Juicy. Garden. Tomatoes.

And you know why?  They make the best BLT's!

The BLT created above with tomatoes and lettuce from my garden.  The "pickles" are really fresh sliced cucumbers from my garden that I let soak in some kosher pickle juice.  Did you know that you can do that?  Don't throw out your pickle juice when the pickles are gone.  You can add fresh cucumbers and they absorb the juice and make the BEST FRESH pickles!

If you don't have a garden in your back yard, head to the local farmers market this weekend....

This weekend we are grilling out, visiting good friends and relaxing...ahhhh summer!

What are you doing?
Welcome Home,
Penny

  1. Oh yes, tomatoes are best things about summer, I agree! We don't have a garden, we do have a special farmer's market that where we get them, we have them each way possible! BLT's are my husband's favorite way to have them, besides tomatoes caprice!

    Have a joyous weekend!

  13. BLTs are one of my favorite sandwiches, but I rarely have all 3 ingredients at the same time. No tomatoes here yet, but soon, very soon they will be at the Farmers Mkts. We just started getting corn last week, it is sooo very delicious!

  15. Have you ever heard the song that goes "There's only two things that money can't buy, and that's true love and home grown tomatoes!" So true. We are still waiting impatiently for ours to ripen but we have basil and carrots and zinnias galore:>) This weekend? I think I will be planning a party, to be held in a couple weeks. Lots opf people and food and lights strung in the yard. 'Bout time we had a little fun!~

  24. Your tomato plants are spectacular! Many more BLT's to come...try adding sliced avocados to make a BLTA (and a leaf or two of fresh basil and drizzel of olive oil, in addition to the mayo - sends it over the top)....Yum!

  25. I didn't put a garden in this year so I will have to go to the farmers market. Summer would not be acceptable without tomotoes. I think a caprese salad and a BLT are both in order this weekend. Great tip about the pickle juice. Have a fantastic weekend. I hope the weather is cooling off in your area.

  26. Penny, that looks delicious! Can't wait until my tomatoes ripen!

  27. Penny those are some beautiful tomatoes. We tried a garden for the first time last year and ended up with a huge crop of tomatoes that got the blight. We followed the directions to dig up the plants and put them in a sealed plastic bag in the sun but we just didn't want to try again this year. We have been getting ours at a local farm stand. There is nothing like fresh veggies! Have a great weekend.

  32. That's some yummy looking sandwich ! And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the new header sunflower .... in Spanish we call sunflowers " mira sol " - looking at the sun. They remind me of my gramma, she had them along one whole side of her garden.

    thanks for sharing,
