Shades of a Different Color and the Winner

I have a dream of the way I want my bedroom to look.  I want it to be a sanctuary.  A place to go at the end of the day that makes me say "ahhhh".

To me that means a place that is clean, light and airy looking.

The picture below is how my room is starting to take on that feel.
Here is another view of the room below.
Eventually I know I want to have the chair above recovered in a more neutral cream fabric.  I know in a previous post, here, I thought about leaving it this color and adding some brighter colors into the room.  But I knew in my heart that was not the look I as going for.

There was something else, that I have wanted to change in this area of the room.  I love red lamp shades and I have several in my house.  But this one in the picture below was just bugging me.

I had bought the floor lamp at a thrift store for $5 a while back.  It didn't have a shade, but I had this red one already, so I plopped it on top and lived with it for about 6 months.

Yesterday, I decided to change it.  I had a self adhesive lamp shade already.  I also had some yellow ticking fabric.  So I covered the lampshade and now it looks like this.
Just imagine how it will look in the picture below, when the chair is recovered in a creamy white or a yellow toile or check.  Oh!  And ignore the paintings sitting on the floor :-).  I will also be painting the demilune table the same color as the dresser.

Now for the winner of the giveaway for the $60 CSN Gift Certificate.  There were 84 entries and I used a random generator to pick the winner.

The winner is Sue Loves Cherries!  Congrats to the winner, I will be emailing you with your Gift Certificate.  And thank you to CSN Stores for sponsoring this giveaway.
Welcome Home,
Penny

I love the cool and calm look you're developing for your bedroom, Penny. The new lampshade must make you sigh in relief/contentment - I know the feeling. Every so often I go on a rampage and make our bedroom clutter-free and something approaching a sanctuary. It lasts for a bit and then I have to start over again!

Penny, I agree that neutrals or soft yellows will be perfect for this bedroom retreat. I like the idea of a yellow toile for the chair. The lamp shade turned out looking very nice. The ticking is a good choice.
Congratulations to Sue! I love to visit her blog. ~ Sarah

I love the linens on your bed! My room is painted a very similar shade and I've been looking for new summer linens. Your room has given me some great ideas.

Your lampshade turned out great. Isn't it amazing how one thing can change the entire look and feel of a room? You are certainly accomplishing a sanctuary look in your bedroom. It's beautiful and so relaxing. I love the soft yellows. Beautiful.

Congrats to Sue!

Not going with that lovely fabric, eh? Too busy after all for your sanctuary? I have a long way to go before my room looks like a sanctuary. It'll just have to be "Grandmother's Spare Bedroom" for now. :D

I appreciate how you think a thing through and live with something for a while until you know what it is that you need.

That is beautiful! It does look like an inviting sanctuary. What is the paint color on your walls? I really like it!

My master bedroom is a cave... Hubby works nights and sleeps during the days, so it is usually dark in there. LOL

The shade looks a zillion times better and isn't it great how a little change can make us love a whole room better? I am still working on my bedroom, I want a sanctuary too and I have plenty of ideas, I just need to prioritize and get going!

Penny, you did a fantastic job on the lamp shade. That is not easy to make those stripes perfect like you did. I love the look of your room and love the colors. That chair would look nice slipcovered.

Congratulations, Sue.
Your sanctuary is beautiful, Penny. I can see that chair in a soft yellow toile, right now it is a little heavy for the rest of the room.

I love that lampshade, Penny! I almost talked myself into gluing fabric on some lampshades the other day. But when I got to Walmart to get the glue, I found some cheap lampshades and went that route. Yours looks absolutely fantastic! What a nice book room you have.

Penny,
Your bedroom is lovely, and that lampshade is perfect now. I can't wait to see what fabric you will use to cover this chair. Do you do this kind of upholstery too? I was at Brimfield's Antique Market today, and there was a woman upholstering furniture. It is amazing to watch.

Thank you for your sweet visit. It's always a pleasure to hear from you. I purchased the red outdoor rug from the Ballards Design Catalog online. It's holding up quite well.

Have a blessed week.

I really like what you've done so far. The new lampshade looks great and I am in LOVE with the blanket at the foot of your bed. Can't wait to see how it all finishes coming together.

Congratulations to Sue, I hope she tells us what she gets with the gift certificate.

The new lamp shade is so much better in that room. Before and after pics make it so easy to see what a great change it is.

I don't mind the pictures sitting on the floor but I like a bit of "off beat" decorating from time to time :-)

Is this the room painted Belgian Waffle? I was leaning towards a soft white for my guest room. Then back to the green I love. Now I see the yellow again! See why I take my time. The yellow is so restful. What's a girl to do!!

I love this room -- all the French country decor you've shared with us is really inspiring to me. I tend to get stuck with color sometimes, but I love the bright, cheery colors and patterns in this room. And LOVE the mustard-y duvet/comforter.
